Please join us for the Prince William Chapter of the Compassionate Friends hosting the 23nd Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting Ceremony. The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren who left too soon. As candles are lit at 7:00 p.m. local time, hundreds of thousands of persons commemorate and honor the memory of all children gone too soon. The ceremony consists of readings of poems, songs, stories, reading of our Angel’s names with candles being lit.

This Candle Lighting is FREE and Open to All!

  • There will be a potluck/fellowship/social immediately following the Candle Lighting. Please bring a food item to share.
  • Please bring a picture of your child to share with others.  We will be providing a table to display your photos.
  • A video of our children will be shown at the end of the ceremony.  At that time, you may decide to stay to watch or leave the room because the ceremony is over.  Attendance for the video is not mandatory as part of the ceremony.
  • If you would like your child to be part of the video, please send no more than 5 photos of your child by the deadline of December 1, 2019 to the following email address:

Because our Chapter Leader is having his house rebuilt after a flood, he does not have access to previous photos or videos. So even if you have sent in photos before for the video, please resend this year if you wish your child included as he will be starting from scratch.

If there are any questions or concerns, please contact our Chapter Leader via the email address above.  Someone will respond to you within 48 hours to address your question or concern.

Or you may contact Shane Williams, Chapter Leader, at 571-212-1401.  Mr. Williams works in a government facility and does not always have reception to answer your call.  If he does not answer, please leave a voicemail with your name, phone number and the best time to call back.

Check back here for any further updates or information.  This includes for status of the ceremony should there be inclement weather.

If you can’t attend our WWCL ceremony, there are many being held around the world. Please check for one wherever you are and spend some time remembering your child(ren).
